Software as a Service (SaaS) offers the user numerous advantages with regard to maintenance, operation and data protection.

ifm electronic now offers an LR Smartobserver as SaaS. It has been standard in the IT area for some time and is an interesting alternative for Industry 4.0 applications.

The LR Smartobserver is a modular software system providing many options for communication from the factory floor to higher levels. The system consists of different software modules allowing the transmission of sensor data to higher-level systems. Sensors with IO-Link interface are connected to an IO-Link master module where the IoT core has been implemented. It provides the measured values, which are then evaluated in the LR Smartobserver. The web-based user interface LR Smartobserver Cockpit allows to show the measured values, define limit values and configure the alarm management.

ifm offers the LR Smartobserver, in the past often installed on premise, as SaaS solution. LR Smartobserver is running in a cloud where the data is stored. The user benefits from numerous advantages. Easy worldwide access to the data via the browser-based LR Smartobserver Cockpit is possible. Backup of the data as well as the software is possible in the cloud with the highest standards, maintenance and updates of the software can be guaranteed at any time. Moreover, investments in the respective hardware on site as well as costs for maintenance and operation are no longer required. Intervening with the IT systems of the company is not necessary either. An IPC with GSM module is used as cloud gateway. Several versions of the Smartobserver aaS with a different number of nodes and gateways and different data volume are available. The solution allows flexible scaling and can thus be extended at any time.
