Eddy Current Displacement Measurement
Published on : Tuesday 30-11--0001
Eddy current eddyNCDT sensors measure displacement, distance, position, oscillations and vibrations. Non-contact eddy current sensors from Micro-Epsilon are perfectly suitable for measurements in harsh industrial environments even when pressure, dirt or temperature fluctuations occur. Their physical measuring principle allows them to measure through non-conductive materials. The measurements are performed at high speed up to 100 kHz. Eddy current sensors are for example used in large plant and machinery such as stone mills or telescopic installations which often work with hydrostatic bearings. These bearing systems are continuously supplied with liquid lubricant via an external pressure supply. Any disturbances in the hydraulics (e.g. pressure drops) can have disastrous consequences, which could result in damage to the bearings and ultimately system failure, causing high maintenance and repair costs. The oil gap in hydrostatic bearings must therefore always be inspected reliably, which is possible by using the eddyNCDT 3001 eddy current sensor. The eddyNCDT 3001 is a new, efficient, robust eddy current sensor whose compact dimensions have to date only been reserved for inductive sensors and proximity sensors. The sensor is easy to install and so is also suitable for ageing plants that need to be retrofitted.
