Cognex Corporation, the leader in industrial machine vision, introduces the 3D-A1000 Item Detection System.

A motion-capable smart camera, the 3D-A1000 can identify the presence or absence of objects with unmatched accuracy on all types of sorters traveling at production line speeds. This product release extends the 3D-A1000 platform into new applications for helping retail and logistics customers reduce delivery errors, improve throughput, and increase fulfilment efficiency. Unlike conventional methods, the 3D-A1000 uses patented 3D Symbolic Light™ technology to freeze motion with a single image. The system gathers precise 3D and 2D information without the need for an encoder, allowing detection of low contrast objects while avoiding tray hygiene issues. Embedded processing then uses Cognex vision tools to provide detailed inspections of trays and objects. The 3D-A1000 is factory calibrated and ready for system integration immediately. The 3D-A1000 can be installed in
less than 15 minutes.

Hygienic Door Handles

In the coronavirus crisis, everyone is called upon to take actions in order to slow the spread of the virus. The ifm group has no competence in the textile domain, so producing makeshift masks was not an option. Instead, the company puts its expertise in tool design, tool construction and plastic injection moulding to use to produce hygienic door handles. Door handles are known to be a breeding ground for germs. Opening doors without touching the handle with your hands can therefore help reduce the spread of infections. That is why tool designers at ifm set out to develop a door handle that allows one to open and close doors with the forearm. The hygienic door handle (article number E12731) consists of two plastic pieces which can be mounted on round 20-22 mm ø door handles using four screws without damage or drilling holes.

Test System, R&S TS8980

Rohde & Schwarz fulfils the certification entry criteria (CEC) for a greatly increased number of the Global Certification Forum's (GCF) work items (WI) and PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB) requests for 5G FR1 RF conformance testing. Thanks to 572 new
GCF validations and 215 new PTCRB validations for the R&S TS8980FTA 3A, the updated version of the leading RF test system R&S TS8980 can now perform a broad range of 5G device certification tests. The device certification process is vital for the mobile communications industry, since compliance with GCF and PTCRB certification requirements ensure that handsets operate as specified in various networks. Following the recent test case validations for a large number of 5G frequency bands and band combinations, the R&S TS8980FTA 3A now fulfils 23 test platform approval criteria (TPAC) for GCF WIs and can therefore be used for a wide range of device certification and testing applications.

Grippers for Medical Applications

SCHUNK has established a team of specialists to explore new fields of automation applications and to find innovative automation solutions with agile working methods. An exemplary gripper for the use in ventilators for Covid-19 patients shows where you can find potentials. The concept was developed in close cooperation with physicians from the University of Tübingen, and is based on automated ventilation via a resuscitator, which can be very easily set up and adjusted via touchscreen. A pressure between 4 mbar to 50 mbar, a volume from 200 ml to 800 ml, a frequency from 5 to 80 cycles per minute, and an inspiratory time I:E of 1:2 to 4:1 can be adjusted. SCHUNK uses proven sensor systems and mechatronic grippers with additively manufactured gripper fingers from its own product line as well as an industrially established control unit for the patent-pending system.

EtherCAT Box for BLDC motors

With the new EP7402 EtherCAT Box from Beckhoff, the control architecture and cabling of roller conveyor systems become significantly more efficient. With the high IP67 protection rating, this compact motor controller for BLDC motors is ideally suited for conveyor tasks in intralogistics and assembly technology as well as in the packaging, food and beverage industries. The EP7402 EtherCAT Box offers two outputs with integrated motion controller for the direct connection of 24 V DC conveyor roller motors or other BLDC motors (up to 3.5 A). Eight additional digital inputs/outputs enable connection of, e.g., photoelectric switches and communication between the different box modules in operation without a PLC. The EP7402 takes over the complete control of a roller motor independently of the conveyor or motor manufacturer. The control of the motors is sensorless. Maximum rated current, acceleration or deceleration ramps and various other parameters can be configured.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure launched its new Building Automation Controllers Desigo PXC4 and PXC5 to transform buildings into high-performing, energy efficient assets. The new generation of Desigo building automation controllers offers a wide range of benefits for automating small and medium-sized buildings to get the most flexible and scalable building automation. Anybus Communicator

Dosing System, Semi-Automated

Small quantities in production require manual work. Precision filling with microliter accuracy, fast cycle times and effective use of resources sounds like automation. The semi- automated filling and dosing system smartDoS by HNP Mikrosysteme GmbH provides the right combination. The flexible system smartDoS contains a highly precise dosing pump. This micro annular gear pump (mzr-pump) is controlled via the graphical user interface mzr-Touch Control. Dosing quantity, dosing speed and dosing duration are entered directly. Depending on the medium and the pump series and size, dosing volumes from 0.25 µl are possible. The dosing is carried out with constant precision and thus ensures a constant process quality. An additionally integrated hand or foot switch enables the operator to activate the start signal and thus determine the cycle of the filling process. Further optional system components are filters, reservoir, shut-off elements and dosing needles. For media with high viscosities, the pumps are additionally equipped with gears.
