Overmoulded Connectors

For many years, circular 7by8 connectors have been available for the requirements of the American market.

In addition to overmoulded cable connectors, the product portfolio also includes field-attachable-connectors as well as flange connectors with strands or for direct PCB assembly. In order to meet the increased demands for higher power transmission, the product portfolio of the 7/8” connectors has been developed with new variants of connectors overmoulded and sockets with wire connection. These versions have a stranded cross-section of 2.5 mm² instead of 1.5 mm², which gives a current load capacity of 16 A at an ambient temperature of 40°C. The overmoulded connectors are available in axial and angled design with 2+PE as well as 4+PE and PVC as well as TPU cables. The flange connectors with strands are available in axial form for front panel mounting (male & female) and back panel mounting (male), whereby other flange variants can also be offered on request.

Turning Grade for Superalloys, KCS10B

Kennametal has introduced its newest and most advanced turning grade, KCS10B, for nickel, cobalt and iron-based superalloys used in aerospace and other high temperature applications. The KCS10B, which features a revolutionary coating applied to an ultra-fine grain carbide substrate for superior layer adhesion, delivers up to 50% greater tool life, more predictable processes, and improved productivity when working with difficult to machine superalloys. KCS10B overcomes the most common challenges encountered in turning superalloys – cratering and depth-of-cut notching – two wear modes that often lead to unexpected and even catastrophic tool failure. Metals such as Inconel 718 and Stellite 31 are notorious for causing rapid wear and unpredictable tool life, KCS10B is proven to reduce DOC notching and extend tool life. Tool life in finishing operations fares even better, with visible cratering and subsequent tool failure often delayed by a factor of two or three.

Laser Welder Platform

Emerson has launched a new laser welder platform that provides high mix and batch manufacturers of plastic components with greater production capability, without compromising product quality or performance. The Branson™ GL-300 is a highly flexible quasi-simultaneous plastic joining solution, designed to deliver efficient high-quality welds in a wide range of applications and help manufacturers to increase production efficiency. For low volume, high mix manufacturers especially, flexible welding solutions that allow faster production start-up, provide a critical advantage. The Branson GL platform meets this need by combining highly efficient and accurate welds with cost-effective and easy-to-change tooling that enables faster set-up and adjustment for changing product specifications. Eddy Current Track Testing Instrument

The WPG D340 trolley brings eddy current onto the rail, so they say at Rohmann GmbH, based in Frankenthal, Germany. The specialist in non-destructive testing now supplies this successful product all over the world. While the trolley has so far been manufactured individually for different track gauges, Rohmann GmbH now offers an adjustable version in addition, for a more universal use with track gauges from 1,400 to 1,700 mm. This may not only please the railway companies, but also their service partners who maintain the tracks. A trolley that has been manufactured for the German track system can now also be used for the inspection of rails abroad, which of course saves costs. The scope of delivery includes among other items a four-channel eddy current testing instrument and a Toughbook with the pre- installed EloRail evaluation software, which has also been developed by Rohmann.

Code Reader for Miniature Codes

With the Lector61x, SICK is expanding its portfolio of image-based code readers. The compact device detects 1D, 2D and stacked codes for identification, inspection or content monitoring in production processes. The trend towards batch size 1 drives development when it comes to automation of manufacturing processes. In order to ensure short throughput times in spite of individualized products as well as to remain competitive in production, SICK delivers the right sensor solutions like the new Lector61x. The smallest image-based code reader measures just 30 mmx40 mmx50 mm and supplements the Lector series for detecting 1D, 2D and stacked codes. In addition to the logistics and automotive industry, these are used for tracing components, especially in the sensitive and miniaturised electronics and solar industry for identification of electronic components, devices and printed circuit boards as well as for date code inspection, serialisation and package content monitoring in the consumer goods industry.

Industrial PC with Mass Memory

B&R is adding new mass memory options for its Automation PC 3100 and Panel PC 3100 industrial PCs. In addition to CFast cards, it is now also possible to use M.2 modules. This type of memory offers fast access and up to 1 TB of storage capacity. M.2 memory modules are very compact and are based on MLC technology. Their high throughput makes them particularly attractive for data logging and other data-intensive applications. They also offer substantially more storage capacity than CFast cards, which allows more data to be written over the course of their service life. The M.2 memory card occupies a predefined interface slot on in the industrial PC. It can be factory-installed or added by the user on site. Together with the two CFast slots, each Automation PC can now be equipped with a total of three mass memory modules.

Ethernet Communication for Ex Areas

Turck is opening the world of the process industry for digitalisation and Industry 4.0 with the first Zone 2 Ethernet gateway for the excom I/O system. All process data can thus now for the first time reach IT systems for analysis and evaluation at sufficient speed via a parallel data channel – a fast and easy way of implementing condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. Controllers and control systems are protected here from access attempts. The new GEN-3G multiprotocol device operates at high data rates in Profinet, Ethernet/IP or Modbus TCP networks without the need for manual intervention. The integrated gateway switch enables the implementation of linear topologies which can be connected easily in the network to form a ring. Besides the hardware redundancies for power supply units and gateways, excom also supports redundancy concepts such as S2 system redundancy to ensure maximum availability.
