New R&D centre and new transmissions line for Carraro in India

The Group consolidates its presence in the subcontinent where Carraro now has over 1100 employees, with a new R&D centre

Pune, October 2013 – 15 years after it started operations in the Indian subcontinent, Carraro Group further strengthens and consolidates its presence in the country.

Today, at a ceremony attended by Enrico Carraro and Alexander Bossard, Group Chairman and CEO respectively, the Italian Ambassador in India, Daniele Mancini, and the Italian Consul General in India, Ugo Ciarlatani, the new Carraro Technologies India Research and Development Centre and a new Carraro India production line were opened.

“Once again India has confirmed our most optimistic expectations – said Enrico Carraro, Chairman of the Group – When we started with Carraro India, in 1998, we had only sensed the potential of this area. Today, with over 1100 employees and a constantly expanding customer base, it is a certainty. I am therefore very proud to open the new Carraro Technologies headquarters and the new Carraro India innovative transmissions assembly line”.

Compared to the first Carraro Technologies India installation, opened in Pune in 2006 with the aim of localising part of the Group engineering network, the new R&D centre represents a significant step forward and lays the basis for further developments. With an area of over 13,500 sq.ft (1,200 sq.m), over twice the size of the initial premises, the new Carraro Technologies has been constructed to house twice the current number of employees (at present 50).

The new centre, equipped among other things with an auditorium with seating capacity of 100, comprises a training room and a room designed for the disassembly and study of axles and transmissions, of fundamental importance for optimisation of the design, industrialisation processes and benchmarking activities.

The opening of the new centre also reflects the new organisation of Carraro Drive Tech engineering which, focusing on product excellence and the most effective response to market needs, has adopted a strategy of total integration of competences, independently of their geographical location: maximum involvement, maximum cross-sectional growth, maximum customer support.

Today Carraro Technologies represents 45% of the capacity of Carraro Drive Tech’s “Engineering & Innovation Drivelines” global team, and this figure is destined to increase. Complete transmission systems are developed for off-road operating machines (agricultural and earth movement), with the mechanical part, axles and transmissions equipped with hydraulic services and all electrical and electronic control systems.

The organisation of Carraro Technologies, supporting the entire Carraro Group, also comprises teams of specialists focusing on other specific themes: - the team dedicated to Agritalia follows a series of projects involving the development of tractor construction parts, continuing the work of the plant in Rovigo (Italy); - the team dedicated to Santerno concentrates on before- and after-sale activities for inverters for industrial applications and photovoltaic parks in the Indian subcontinent;

Parallel to start-up of the new Carraro Technologies centre, important news also for Carraro India, which has a new production line for the most innovative range of Carraro tractor transmissions up to 120 HP.
