Drive concepts for airports: NORD at inter airport Europe

October 2019 – The 22nd international trade fair for airport equipment, technology, design and service is an important platform for NORD to demonstrate its expertise for efficient and intelligent drive concepts in highly complex intralogistics systems.

At the world's leading airport industry fair, NORD will be presenting drive concepts for the networked airport. This includes the latest energy-efficient synchronous motors, future-proof control cabinet inverters as well as a wireless and mobile service tool for NORD drive systems.

As an absolute innovation in its portfolio, NORD will be presenting an energy-efficient latest generation permanent magnet synchronous motor that has considerably lower losses than the current IE4 series. The compact and unventilated smooth motor achieves its high efficiency that, at times, is significantly above efficiency class IE5 via a wide torque range – and is optimally suitable for intralogistics applications like luggage handling systems at airports. The IE5+ motor offers a high power density and will be initially launched in a size for lower power ranges from 0.25 to 1.1 kW. It achieves a continuous torque from 1.6 to 4.8 Nm as well as speeds from 0 to 2,100 min-1. The IE5+ motor supplements the LogiDrive concept for intralogistics and can be used worldwide in the same version.

Optimum performance in the control  cabinet

The NORDAC PRO SK 500P frequency inverter is the first device of the new generation of NORD Drivesystems frequency inverters. It uses the latest component technology and features ultimate levels of functionality, connectivity and modularity. As well as the standard CANopen interface, a multi-chip for Industrial Ethernet enables the use of the most important real-time Ethernet standards via a single interface. The new NORDAC PRO is available as a fully featured application inverter (SK 530P and SK 550P) and as a machine inverter (SK 500P) with a reduced number of interfaces that nevertheless performs functionally demanding tasks via integrated PLC, closed-loop control and positioning. The SK 530P also features an SD card slot, USB interface and the possibility of expansion via an optional SK CU5 module. On the other hand, the SK 550P is the first choice for connection to control systems via Industrial Ethernet. In addition to improved characteristics and performance features, the new generation offers a better TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) than previous inverters.

A solution for mobile use

With the NORDCON APP and the mobile Bluetooth connection device NORDAC ACCESS BT, NORD has created a mobile commissioning and service solution for all NORD electronic components. It is used for analysing, monitoring and parameterisation of NORD drive systems. The dashboard-based visualisation can be used for drive monitoring and fault diagnosis. With a help function and rapid access to parameters, parameterisation of drive units is simple and easy. In addition, the app has further practical features such as a backup and recovery function for simple handling of drive parameters, as well as an individually configurable oscilloscope function for analysis of the drive. The practical mobile service solution is available for all NORD drive electronics.
