With the approval for the establishment of three semiconductor manufacturing facilities, the Government of India aims to lead the world of semiconductor chips. Taking a step ahead towards it, Micron Technology, a leading Semiconductor company, is aiming to release the first set of semiconductor chips from its Sanand facility in Gujarat.
The majority of these semiconductor chips are meant to be exported. If the chips, which are designed for use in data centres, cellphones, laptops, and IoT devices, are exported, the unit will be a major participant in the global semiconductor industry.
During the company event, Micron Technology India managing director Anand Ramamoorthy said, “No factory for India will ever be making only for India. It will be a small part, and the bulk of it will be for exports. A factory supporting India’s customers is a thing of convenience. But the factory becoming truly global in terms of turnaround time, cost structure, and quality speaks a more.”
He also emphasized that the chips will be packaged at the Sanand unit and utilized in data centers, notebooks, smartphones, Internet of Things devices and the automotive segments.
Micron Technology, in 2023, announced its plan to establish a semiconductor chip and testing facility in Sanand Gujarat. The company is also looking into new business prospects and serves all sectors including government contracts in India and electric two-wheelers. With partnerships with Tata Group enterprises, Micron is collaborating with the semiconductor production operations of Tata Electronics in Assam and Gujarat.
Headquartered in Idaho, Micron Technology has a global workforce of more than 40,000 people, with approximately 4000 employees at its research and development centers in India – Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
