Siemens provides electrification for longest rail tunnel of Indian Railways

State-of-the-art rail electrification technologies for a 42-km-long stretch on Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link.

February 29, 2024 – Siemens Limited is privileged to have provided rail electrification technologies for a 42-km-long stretch, including the longest rail tunnel (12.8-km) at Pir Panjal range, on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link. The project is part of the Jammu-Udhampur-Katra-Quazigund-Baramulla Railway line of the Indian Railways, the largest construction of a mountain railway line since India’s independence, with a length of 345 km and at a height of approximately 1,700 metres above sea level.
Siemens Limited’s scope included the design, engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 25kV overhead equipment and associated works.
