V G Sakthikumar honoured with Committed Leader for Women Empowerment award

Schwing Stetter India Chairman is credited for championing gender diversity and inclusion at the company and for advocating the need at industry forums.
India, January 03, 2024: V G Sakthikumar, Schwing Stetter India’s Managing Director and Chairman – one of the country’s leading concreting & construction equipment manufacturers has been awarded the prestigious “Committed Leader for Women Empowerment award” at CII Excon 2023 in Bangalore.
Speaking on the occasion V G Sakthikumar, Managing Director and Chairman, said, “We recognise the potential of women in breaking barriers and delivering high-quality results. What we started at a small scale in our newest plant GmH in the backward districts of Tamil Nadu has made us realise the possibility of increasing their percentage share. Today, 28% of our workforce on the shop floor comprises women. We've taken special care to create an ecosystem fostering inclusion by building hostels, creches, and establishing a woman empowerment committee. We've also tied up with universities to upgrade their skills from Diploma Engineer trainees to Graduate Engineer trainees as they work and learn simultaneously.”
Schwing Stetter India has been driving various initiatives to provide enhanced opportunities to women at the workplace which includes establishing a women’s empowerment committee, which is responsible for developing and implementing initiatives to support women employees, offering scholarships and financial assistance programs to women who are interested in pursuing careers in STEM. Additionally, Schwing actively partners with non-profit organisations that work to promote women’s empowerment.
“Working in the manufacturing unit of the company I have first-hand experience in the efforts our management takes to empower us, they do not stop with just ensuring an inclusive, flexible and safe workplace but they provide us with growth opportunities to upskill ourselves with training programmes. Their commitment extends to giving us the option of Onsite childcare, which eliminates all our personal hindrances and assures that the company is invested in our growth,” said Saheli Das, Diploma Engineer, Schwing Stetter India.
