New energy efficiency platform launched to enable energy efficiency efforts and learning between India, Nigeria, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Goa, 22nd July 2023: The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) in partnership with the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) organised the 4th G20 Energy Transition Ministerial Meeting on the sidelines of the 14th Clean Energy Ministerial and 8th Mission Innovation meeting. As global economies gear up to transition towards green and clean sources of energy, the meeting emphasised the principles of energy equity and justice.
The Ministerial Meeting in Goa, under Indias G20 presidency, represents a crucial milestone in addressing the challenges around energy equity and clean transitions. India has a unique opportunity to leverage its experience and commitment to address key challenges such as affordable energy access, including quantity, quality and reliability of power supply; access to clean fuels and technologies for cooking; access, efficiency, and deployment of renewable energy; and development, implementation and compliance with energy regulations, standards and policies.
GEAPP announced the launch of a platform that will enable energy efficiency efforts between India and focus countries including Nigeria, Indonesia and Vietnam. By collaborating closely with countries and experts, it will work towards replicating the energy efficiency progress achieved in India. The forum will be incubated by McKinsey India, bringing together diverse stakeholders to drive meaningful change in hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, auto and power.
In his message for the gathering Mr Ravi Venkatesan, Chair of the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) said, This platform embodies our commitment to promoting renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies for the benefit of communities in the Global South. We are proud to launch this transformative initiative and work closely with countries and experts to accelerate the transition to a sustainable energy future. It will serve as a catalyst for change, fostering international cooperation and knowledge-sharing to drive effective energy efficiency solutions. By leveraging Indias remarkable success in policy and regulation of energy efficiency, it will capture key learnings to be shared with the B20/G20, fostering consensus for global policy action.
In order to accelerate state-driven clean energy initiatives, GEAPP in India and ORF also conducted a roundtable discussion on how Indian states have assumed a pivotal role in spearheading energy transition efforts at the local level, implementing innovative policies and initiatives to drive the shift towards sustainable and clean energy sources. The discussion focused on the pathways that Indian states should construct to scale up renewable energy while fostering collaboration and innovation.
GEAPP in India will also collaborate with Alliance partner Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) wherein both organisations will work together to enable the adoption of clean energy solutions like renewable energy, energy efficiency, electric vehicles and associated technologies for the greening of Indias energy sector. It was announced that the organisations will together support the deployment of decentralised renewable energy solutions like Rooftop Solar, accelerate EV adoption and deployment of EV charging infrastructure in cities and states of India; work with stakeholders to unlock BESS value streams and design new business and implementation models; and design innovation challenges, build the capacity of startups and support them in creating a go-to-market strategy through collaborative models like joint research and analysis, knowledge exchange, joint studies and projects, or joint workshops.
GEAPP is committed to a clean energy, pro-growth model that ensures universal energy access, unlocking a new era of inclusive economic growth while enabling the global community to meet critical climate goals during the next decade. We aim to showcase the transformative potential of entrepreneurship, encourage the mobilisation of patient capital, and demonstrate its commitment to advancing affordable clean energy solutions, said Saurabh Kumar, Vice-President-India, GEAPP.
