Chennai, April 26, 2023 – Automation Expo South had a grand opening today at 10 am at the spacious Hall 3 of the Chennai Trade Centre at Nandambakkam, Chennai. The event was formally inaugurated by Tmt. S. Madumathi, IAS, Managing Director, TANSIDCO Limited. I am very happy to note that the exhibition has received tremendous response – a houseful show. Automation today is catching like wildfire across the industrial world and Tamil Nadu is no exception. After two decades of successful shows in Mumbai, the Organisers, guided by the Board of Governors, have brought this show to Chennai. This will benefit the local industries in terms of new product launches and the opportunities to understand the technologies from the vendors. It will help industries to negotiate the uncertainties in business more efficiently, caused by events beyond human control, she said.
Automation Expo South is organised by Mumbai-based IED Communications, the organisers of the iconic Automation Expo series of annual exhibitions. Traditionally held in Mumbai, this is the first time the event is held at Chennai, and has been well received in terms of exhibitor response. Among the exhibitors are leading automation companies like Yokogawa India Limited, Pepperl+Fuchs India Pvt Ltd, MTL Instruments – Eaton Group, Lenevo, Janatics India Pvt Ltd, Multivista Global Pvt Ltd, Moons Industries – China, Horner Engineering, Red Lion Spectris Group, Finder India Pvt Ltd, Agility, ARI Global, Autobots, Axis Engineering, Sanyo Denki India Pvt Ltd, Baumer Group and many others.

Automation today has permeated every industry segment. According to a recent report by Future Market Insights (FMI), the global the Process Automation & Instrumentation market is on an upward trajectory, registering a CAGR of approximately 5.0% between 2022 and 2032, with an evaluation that reached US$ 59,841.1 Mn in 2021 and is anticipated to surpass US$ 101.6 Bn by 2032. The global Factory Automation market too was valued at $242.5 billion in 2021 and is projected to reach $558.8 billion by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 8.7%.
The inspiration to start a dedicated event for automation in India came from similar shows in Germany, especially the Interkama, which I had visited in the 1980s. To me, automation was the necessity for industries to modernise and scale up production for domestic requirements as well as exports. From 2002 we have organised the Automation Expo in Mumbai and succeeded in our efforts to bring the latest automation and instrumentation products and technologies for the industry. But this is the first edition in southern India organised here in Chennai. The response has been overwhelming, said Dr. M. Arokiaswamy, Chairman & Managing Director, IED Communications Ltd.

Industrial Automation, the monthly publication of IED Communications, has announced on this occasion the India Automation Challenge 2023, a prestigious platform for engineering students to showcase their skills and compete for cash prizes up to Rs. 1,00,000. The initiative aims to inspire young minds, provide exposure to real-world automation challenges, and create a talent pool of practical solution-oriented professionals. India Automation Challenge 2023 welcomes the innovative minds of India to design and build automation systems with practical applications in various domains, including transportation, health and fitness, security, medical, environmental protection, and more. Participants can compete in categories like Smart Cities, Energy Management, Industry/Factory Automation, Smart Irrigation, Autonomous Vehicles, and Robotics or submit their own creative ideas. The competition comprises four stages: Concept/Idea submission, Technical paper presentation, POC demonstration, and the Finale Presentation held at Automation Expo 23 in Mumbai.
