Groundbreaking ceremony for new Jungheinrich plant

New site for reach truck production on 37,000 square metres production start planned for mid-2023.

May 10, 2022 – Jungheinrich starts construction on its new plant in Chomutov, Czech Republic. Together with representatives of responsible construction development, local politics and business, Sabine Neuß, Member of the Board of Management Technics at Jungheinrich AG, marked the start of construction last Friday, May 6, 2022, with a groundbreaking ceremony. An energy-efficient and CO2-optimised new building for reach truck production will be constructed on 37,000 square metres. Over 350 jobs are expected to be created here. The construction is carried out with the real estate developer Panattoni using a built-to-suit method and is scheduled for completion in spring 2023. The project budget is around €60 million.

Starting in 2023, Jungheinrich will produce the current generation of its reach trucks, the ETV 216i from POWERLiNE, in Chomutov. For the company, the new plant represents a central component in achieving growth targets as part of its 2025+ strategy and increasing its competitiveness in the long term.

Sabine Neuß, Member of the Board of Management Technics at Jungheinrich AG: "With our new plant, we are expanding capacities within our production network in Europe. This way we ensure at an early stage that we will be able to meet the increasingly high and growing demand for Jungheinrich material handling equipment in the future. We are building one of the world's most modern manufacturing facilities for forklift trucks in Chomutov, taking our production to the next level."

In the conception of the site, Jungheinrich implements its strategic corporate goal of creating sustainable value by focusing particularly on efficiency and sustainability. Modern technology will be used for the entire factory equipment, from workplaces to complex production plants. For example, a new production control system will be installed. In addition to using green electricity, a heat pump will be integrated, whilst special thermal insulation in the office wing ensures additional energy savings. By installing a rainwater harvesting system, water consumption will be reduced. A 1.5-hectare large green area with native trees and shrubs is intended to promote local biodiversity. For the building, a certification with the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) sustainability standard at the "Excellent" level is being aspired.

Completion is scheduled for spring 2023, and the start of production is planned for mid-2023. As a traditional region for coal mining, Chomutov is affected by the current structural change. The new Jungheinrich production site will create over 350 new jobs in the region.
