The Vardhaman project at KIA involves tackling the crucial problem of low visibility for landing flights at night or during foggy hours.

August 2020 – Vardhman Airport Solutions has announced it has added another feather to its cap. The company’s superior products and in-depth understanding of Airport Solutions has enabled it to become a trusted partner of Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) in upgrading the CAT I to CAT IIIB Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). Present in the Silicon Valley of India, KIA is India's 3rd busiest Airport. This makes it important to provide safe and seamless experience to flights throughout the day. The Vardhaman project at KIA involves tackling the crucial problem of low visibility for landing flights at night or during foggy hours. With this, KIA has joined the global elite club of airports with state-of-the-art CAT IIIB AGL and has made a giant stride towards its vision of reducing the carbon footprint.
The project requires a comprehensive makeover of AGL systems, starting from putting together primary and secondary cables and going all the way through to testing and commissioning.
It includes installing and assisting:
• AGL Pit Fitouts with necessary support like isolation transformers of various ratings
• 8" and 12" AGL inset lights in Shallow Bases alongside frangible poles, masts and Airfield Guidance Signs
• Perimeter Intrusion Detection (PID) of the light fixture and evaluating based on characteristics like Probability of Detection (PD), False Alarm Rate (FAR), and Vulnerability to Defeat, etc.
• Airport Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS)/ Individual Light Control and Monitoring System (ILCMS) programming
• AGL Light Fixtures/Signs and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) units along with foundations like alignment, connections, ground calibrations, establishing and providing PAPI check stick base plates, assisting BIAL for ground calibration of PAPI units during flight calibration, etc.
• New Constant Current Regulators (CCRs) with ratings ranging from 2.5kVA to 20kVA
• Induction Loop Sensor System in the Saw/Kerf cut in the asphalt/PQC pavement; laying OFC from CCR Halls to Field CCB/Network Junction boxes and conducting OTDR
Additionally, the project requires taking care of relocating ALCMS/ILCMS cabinets and workstations, conducting extensive Photometric Testing for complete AGL system to ensure 100% brilliancy and establishing Earthing support.
This is our third project with BIAL and it yet again proves the towering faith that our clients have shown in our 15+ years of industry expertise and takes us one step ahead in our journey of making air transport in India safe and reliable.
