Allen Pai, Senior Sales Specialist, YIDA Precision Machinery, spoke to Jyothi Joseph, Industrial Automation.

Innovation is highly valued at YIDA. What are the unique features in these products that differentiate the company from others?
Through Finite Element Analysis (FEA), YIDA designs machine structures with high rigidity and durability. The ballscrews on every axis are pretensioned, so that they effectively suppress heat and provide thermal compensation.
YIDA is meeting the market’s Done-in-One machining demand, and continues to develop multi-tasking machining centres such as Orthogonal (90°) designed construction mill-turn machine called MT-540; Twin-spindle with Y-axis turning and milling centre called (B)ML-600T(Y) series; and Box-in-Box construction horizontal machining centre called MH-500PLUS/630PLUS that reduces parts changing time and increases machining accuracy. With automatic robot arms to load/unload parts, the human sources could be lowered while also reducing human errors, therefore production quality could be greatly improved. Moreover, optional accessories like user-friendly operation interfaces are available, such as, ‘Tool Load Monitor’, which provides the operator the load data of the spindle and axes, so that machining value could be adjusted in order to achieve high precision levels.
With emerging trends for Smart Factory and autonomous operations, how do you see machine tools evolving in the next 10 years?
For improving production efficiency, reducing human error and saving labour costs, machine tools will be bound to be designed in the direction of automation and smart manufacturing in the following 10 years.
In the past decade, YIDA has completed around 20 projects related automation production, many of completed projects could be converted into manufacturing model for automobile parts processing.
Some of the projects for automation in production that we have executed include:
On a lathe: It works with robot (for auto loading/unloading), parts stocker, auto laser measuring system, auto pneumatic (parts) flushing system, and auto compensating (error) system (to CNC controller).
On a machining centre: YIDA’s HMC (MH series) works with multi-pallet (6-pallet), or 3-layer for 24-pallet (customised). YIDA’s VMC [EV/(B)MV series] works with auto (front/side) door open/close design, robot (for auto loading/unloading) for improving production efficiency and reducing human source.
YIDA has also started developing a platform called Smart Machine Engine (SME), which transmits the machine working status, tool wearing data, and parts quantity real-time on the production line to the user’s desktop computer or mobile phone through the network so that the user optimises the management of the production line.
What kind of R&D and customer engagement goes into new product development at YIDA?
Since maintenance has a direct influence on performance, productivity and product quality, we have been improving it with Augmented Reality (AR) technology that we built recently. It assists our customers to find out the cause of the errors and quickly solve the electrical or mechanical issue.
An AR 3D model of our HMC – MH-400 has been created and was shown at TMTS 2018 and TIMTOS 2019 exhibitions.
You could check out the link (www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD_NkEibYY0) to see how AR applies to our HMC – MH-400 machine.
Our next step will be focusing on AR maintenance and creating more AR 3D models for technical support.
Do you have sales in the Indian market? Any auto part manufacturing case? How are the sales and service aspects handled?
We do. A client in Bangalore bought three lathes, BML-600S from us to make automobile parts like the hooks in the back of the cars and screw and nut sets.
