How does Syrma leverage the concept of co-creation in attaining highest product efficiency?
Co-creation for Syrma symbolises early-involvement with customers on new ideas and concepts. Consequently, it is wired from the start towards achieving the best efficiency in the product. The following ensures this:
a. Ideas or concepts are quickly converted to a proof of concept (PoC) first on the drawing board and then as first-off PoC parts while co-working with the customer
b. These parts are tested and validated for all aspects by customers for early detection of potential issues and correcting these, and
c. Designing for manufacturing efficiency is another feature that helps to achieve the highest efficiency in bringing out the product.
What is the significance of well-built circuit boards in ensuring the quality and safety of the product?
Syrma endeavours to design quality into the product through rigorous DFMs even for products that are built-to-print through ‘Proactive Quality’ concepts
Syrma’s Process and Quality control at the Advanced Product quality stage ensures the process is checked for ‘what can go wrong’ and ‘where could the operator make an error’ so as not to blame them later for mistakes. This process continues even during serial manufacturing through quality walks on the shop apart from regular automatic inspections, manual checks, and testing.
How do Rapid Prototyping technologies help electronic manufacturers and what are the reasons there is not enough of it happening in India?
Quick prototyping rather than Rapid is Syrma’s approach. Rapid prototyping will definitely help with mechanical parts.
Most top contract manufacturers are not very receptive to the unique needs of early-stage startups, which is one major reason for lesser prototyping shops.
In Syrma we have been successful in setting up in 2018, the Zone of Autonomous Creation (ZAC) – a quick prototyping facility dedicated for design companies, chipset designers (Reference designs) and startups. The uniqueness of ZAC is that it is fully autonomous and independent of our mass production shops and also reports into our business development function. It has a dedicated line for PCB assembly with an autonomous team that has procurement, process, quality and NPI (new product introduction) engineers. It has its Stores for components independent of the Main Plant. Thus, we help not only startups but also mainstream product companies to quickly convert their ideas into high-quality parts at a reasonable cost.

How can Syrma help its partners in reducing cost, and get products faster to the market?
One of Syrma's core strengths to be highlighted is significant Bill of Materials cost reduction at scalable volumes through our design services and suggestions of alternatives. Our 4-decade engagement with supply partners is also leveraged for efficient sourcing. Early review of manufacturability is also a way to start serial productions with a good efficiency level.
What is the present size of the EMS industry in India vis-à-vis the actual potential?
The Global EMS market size in 2019 was US$832 billion and expected to reach over a trillion dollars by 2025. It is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4%. The Indian EMS industry is likely to grow at a CAGR of over 45% to become US$152 billion in the next 5 years. The government is expecting electronics manufacturing in the country to register an annual growth rate of 30% over the next five years and clock Rs 11,500 billion in additional production. The exports are expected to grow by 40% to 50% annually in the next 5 years.
What is the significance of the merger of Syrma Technologies with SGS Tekniks, and the implications?
Syrma has its footprint established with five state-of-the-art facilities including at Chennai, Bawal in the North, and Bargur near Bangalore for Electronics Manufacturing. The merger will help in expanding our geographical footprint in India while adding capacity and capability as well. Post-merger we are adding 4 units at Baddi, Bengaluru, Gurgram and Manesar to the new entity. The company is eyeing 20% growth in the current year and 40% to 50% in FY 22-23. With the projected global growth of IoT products over US$5 trillion, the emerging opportunities in Indian IoT, EV and smart products portfolio will be the mainstay for the combined entity.
