Three high profile Technology/Innovation Days held in India in early October by three global majors in a span of 6 days had a common introduction, even as the agenda and areas of operations differed.

The keynote in all three took note of the recent developments in India like the highly successful moon mission and the successful G20 summit in New Delhi followed by the sterling performance of the Indian athletes at the 19th Asian Games held at Hangzhou in China. These are the signs of a nation rapidly catching up with the developed world amidst the rapidly changing geopolitical scenario. Already the fifth largest economy and the most populous country, India is on course to become the third largest over the next 4-5 years.
Bolstered by a slew of policy initiatives beginning with Make in India and supplemented by the PLI scheme, the post Covid China Plus One strategy to de-risk the supply chains is a further advantage for India. However, speaker after speaker at the events mentioned earlier emphasised how important a role technology has to play in order to capitalise on these strategic advantages. The days of counting on cheap labour alone are a thing of the past. Today it is skills that matter and fortunately, India has those in abundance. What is needed is the will to embrace digitalisation for sustainable manufacturing as the world is aiming for Net Zero emissions, where again technology has a basket of solutions.
The Cover Story in this edition examines the latest developments in Motion Control, an important component of automation. It is complemented by other articles on various topics, all related to industrial automation and talking about recent developments and exploring options available to industry for improved efficiency.
