The much awaited 15th edition of Automation Expo 2022 was held successfully at the NSE Complex in Mumbai from August 16-19, 2022.

As organizers of this mega event, our team together with all the service providers and the exhibitors and their teams worked tirelessly to put the show together, to welcome the first visitors on the morning of August 16 at the venue. The weather forecast had predicted heavy intermittent showers which caused many apprehensions, and Mumbai experienced one of the season’s heaviest downpours during the pre-noon session. But nothing failed to dampen the spirit of the moment, as the Inaugural Ceremony was held with the traditional lighting of the lamp in the presence of the Chief Guests and VIPs invited for the occasion. The 4-day event witnessed heavy visitor turn-out, especially on Days 2 and 3, when the aisles were crowded with visitors. Even Day 4, which happened to be a public holiday, witnessed a steady flow of visitors, especially outstation visitors from neigbouring states and districts.
As Automation Expo completes two decades of the show, it gives us great satisfaction to be back with a live show after the two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic. Visitors used the opportunity to connect directly with the vendors and their representatives and were benefitted with various innovations on display across the large expanse of Hall 1. The general consensus was that this edition, though it did not surpass the participation figures of the previous edition that had a large contingent of overseas exhibitors, was superlative in terms of the exhibits and technologies on display. Included in this edition is a 24-page pictorial review of the show for the benefit of the readers who were unable to visit. The 2023 edition of Automation Expo, the 16th in the series, has been announced for August 23-26, 2023, at the same venue.
Sensors play a vital role in industrial automation, as they facilitate detection, analysis and measurement of changes in position, dimensions and appearance during various processes. Based on the changes in the parameters detected by sensors, decisions are made to run the processes, machines and systems that keep production going. There are various types of sensors used in industrial automation: proximity sensors, vision sensors, ultrasonic sensors, position sensors, photoelectric sensors, temperature sensors, inclination sensors, etc. The simple, conventional sensors of yore are now making way for smart sensors that are today facilitating the Industrial Internet of Things, where everything is connected and measured. This edition of Industrial Automation features a Lead Story on Intelligent Sensors & Devices – How sensors are revolutionising everything, with experts discussing the various advantages of smart sensors.
