Data/Ethernet connection and free drive button as special features in every robot
“Strong – fast – simple” is the motto of the Danish robot manufacturer, who develops and produces 7-axis cobots in Copenhagen. Kassow Robots keeps consequently to its motto with its new sophisticated end-of-arm tool that they now install in every robot as standard – a special benefit that only very few other manufacturers offer their partners and industry customers.
Kassow robots come with easy connection of end-of-arm tool directly, without cable on the outside of the robot. “All our cobots have three ports with various I/Os and power supply signals. Two of the ports are for digital or analogue input/output. The third port and the free drive button are really special features,” said Dieter Pletscher, Head of Sales at Kassow Robots. The third port enables a direct Data/Ethernet connection with the controller. “This way, our customers can, for example, connect camera solutions or Modbus TCP directly to the robot via the intelligent end-of-arm tool interface. The cable consequently does not have to be led along the outside of the robot arm,” Pletscher elaborates.

In addition to three I/O ports, cobots by Kassow Robots now also feature a free drive button at the end-of-arm tool. Thanks to this innovation, the robot can be moved freely to its desired position without a control panel, and individual positions are saved automatically. “This opens up a new realm of possibilities when programming the waypoints,” explains Pletscher.
At the SPS Smart Production Solutions (SPS 2019) in Nuremberg, visitors were able to check the new technical features of Kassow robots at the booth of Alexander Bürkle GmbH & Co KG, a Kassow partner, where the KR810 was on display. “We are pleased that our newest partner presented one of our cobots at this year’s SPS,” says Dieter Pletscher. Alexander Bürkle, a medium-sized company from Baden-Württemberg can look back on a 100-year tradition and, according to Dieter Pletscher, “is well-known for excellent automation solutions and has ideal links to industrial companies, and not only in South West Germany.” Alexander Bürkle is a family-run group of companies with its headquarters in Freiburg, Germany, and operates both in the electrical wholesale trade and as a technology service provider. At SPS, Alexander Bürkle represented its smart industries division.

Kassow Robots was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark, with the mission of developing unique and efficient 7-axis lightweight robots for industrial applications. The company’s motto is “strong, fast, simple”. Its products offer speed and power, yet also have a long reach. The robots’ user-friendliness provides businesses with greater flexibility, allowing SMEs without their own robotics specialists to achieve complex automation and programming cost-effectively and independently. What is more, the cobots are compact enough for use in confined spaces.
Kassow Robots’ product family comprises the cobots KR 810 (with a reach of 850mm / a payload of 10 kg), KR 1205 (with a reach of 1200/a payload of 5 kg) and KR 1805 (with a reach of 1800mm/a payload of 5 kg). Two highly experienced robotics experts – Kristian Kassow as CEO and Dieter Pletscher as Head of Sales – are driving the company’s development. The start-up entered the market at Automatica fair in Munich in June 2018.
