IEW’s second edition marks India’s emergence as the centre of global energy markets.

energy companies.
India will host the second edition of India Energy Week (IEW) in Goa from February 6th to 9th 2024, an event that will delve into the energy quadrilemma of balancing security, accessibility, affordability and sustainability, particularly for developing economies.
IEW 2024 will also aim to foster cooperation and collaboration between energy companies, while building the future workforce for a new energy world.
The gathering of global energy stakeholders will contribute towards strengthening India’s position on the world’s energy map, highlighting the country’s potential as the third-largest largest energy consumer in the world, with projections to account for ~25% of the global energy incremental demand growth in the next 15-20 years.
India’s efforts to tackle the twin challenges of energy security and energy transition are widely considered a viable template for the world to follow. However, the dynamic energy landscape continues to pose new challenges for experts and policymakers.
Owing to its size and rapidly growing economy, India is currently at the centre of energy demand (third largest crude oil importer) and is poised to be a major driving force for energy markets in the future.
The country is also innovating on the technological and policy front to ensure its vast population has access to uninterrupted and affordable energy.
The world is looking at India’s example to learn from and also contribute to solving various challenges, while exploring opportunities to benefit from the country as a large demand center for new clean energy technologies and conventional energy sources.
India’s energy journey
India’s efforts have made it one of the few nations in the world that is on track to meet the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) targets. It has achieved targets related to emission intensity and non-fossil fuel nine years ahead of schedule.
Additionally, the country has seen astronomical growth in solar generation capacity from about 2,000 MW in 2014 to above 60,000 MW in just over nine years. It has also met the target of blending 10% ethanol in petrol ahead of schedule and has moved forward the 20% target by five years.
It’s even more remarkable and a testimony to India’s sincerity towards climate goals that these achievements have come within the constraints of energy security of a rapidly growing, vast nation.
“Today, India has set an example for the world to have a perfect balance between ecology and economy. Despite India having 17% of the world's population, our share in global carbon emissions is less than only 4%,” PM Narendra Modi recently said while addressing inaugural sessions of COP-28.
Further, India has also taken the mantle of leadership and has shepherded the world towards building valuable multilateral organisations like the International Solar Alliance, Global Biofuel Alliance and a leadership role in development of green hydrogen capacity.

Second Edition of IEW
Organised by the Federation of Indian Petroleum (FIP) Industry under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, India Energy Week serves as a catalyst for meaningful discussions, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among industry experts, policy makers, academia and entrepreneurs.
The event aims to foster partnerships, drive innovation, and explore solutions that will propel India's energy sector into a sustainable and vibrant future.
India Energy Week 2024 is expected to draw over 35,000+ attendees, 350+ exhibitors, 400+ speakers and 4,000+ delegates, from over 100 countries. The event will also host an extensive array of exhibitors, spanning core oil field services to enrich the event’s dynamic atmosphere.
During IEW 2024, Ministerial, Leadership and Technical sessions and Roundtables will explore varied themes like energy transition of the global south, building a future ready energy stack, chartering the roadmap of alternate fuels for energy optionality and impact of localisation, regionalisation and globalisation on energy related industrialisation and manufacturing processes.
Additionally, the event will bring sharp focus to India’s tackling of climate change through its aggressive net-zero emission target by 2070 and reducing the total carbon emission by 1 billion tonnes till 2030 while aiming for 50% of power generation to be from renewable energy in 2030.
IEW is poised to be a world class platform, convening policymakers, business leaders and energy pioneers to collaborate, discover new opportunities and strengthen partnerships.
