Foundation Artificial Intelligence (AI) models are revolutionising the way we live and work. From healthcare to transportation to finance, AI is transforming industries and improving lives. However, as AI capabilities continue to expand, it also poses potential risks.
To harness the full potential of frontier AI while minimising its risks, a globally coordinated approach is essential. In this article, we will explore the need for international cooperation to mitigate frontier AI risks and outline a forward process for collaboration.
Understanding the Risks of Frontier AI
Frontier AI models, such as Google Bard, GPT-4 and beyond, are capable of processing and generating information at unprecedented scales. This power can be used for good however; it can also be used for malicious purposes, such as spreading misinformation or probably developing autonomous weapons tomorrow.
Here are some of the key risks associated with frontier AI:

1. Bias or discrimination – AI models are trained on data, and if that data is biased, the model will be biased as well. This can lead to unfair and discriminatory outcomes, such as the denial of loans to certain groups of people.

Nations can play a role in promoting transparency by developing standards for reporting on AI safety and by supporting research in this area.
