Please explain your project briefly in a few sentences. What inspired you to work on this project?
Our project is a gear-based Stewart platform for manufacturing applications. In the linearly actuated Stewart platform, the actuation of the Stewart platform is based on hydraulic systems. Even though hydraulic systems give high-precision operation, the cost of procurement and operations is high. In the rotary actuated Stewart platform the overall procurement and operation costs are less but it lacks precision. The main objective of the project is to design and fabricate a Stewart platform that is comparatively cheap with respect to the linear actuated Stewart platform but also much more precise than rotary actuated Stewart platform; such that this could be used in MSMEs.
How was the response from visitors and peers to your project at Automation Expo 2023?
Many industry people visited our stall, most of them being from the manufacturing sector. They were attracted to our presentation due to our new approach and possible industry opportunities. Most of them were friendly and gave us suggestions to improve our projects and make them practically applicable in the industry.
Did you receive any offers or encouragement from exhibiting companies or visiting industry professionals?

Yes, we have received various project offers to work with the industry people with niche problems with respect to automating their industry. We have been given their contact details for further discussion regarding the projects.

How did you find the initial idea and what was your reaction to it?

The idea we developed connects the needs of society and industry. The experience on the journey was more than satisfactory.
What was the response from the students to your guidance and the deliberations that followed?
My students were cooperative and we had discussions about the concept and were overwhelmed. But again they managed to complete the design.
How does the college encourage and inspire students to go beyond theory and experiment with projects?

In our college, we encourage students to participate in such events as IAC23 to gain exposure, which could help the students in their careers. Our college also has numerous programs where we fund students to do their project work that is innovative and novel.
