Condition Monitoring in Tanks, Bulk Storage Silo Systems
Published on : Sunday 09-10-2022
Solutions for agribusinesses – improve the quality & safety of valuable goods stored in storage tanks, bulk silos.

As our world’s population grows, food and beverage demand is growing too. Keeping pace with supply in a sustainable way is critical. We understand the need to ensure efficient, safe and reliable storage of valuable products, not only in terms of quantity but also in terms of quality.
With no tolerance for waste, monitoring product condition and quality parameters during storage becomes a crucial task for manufacturers, refiners and traders alike. Compliance with industry directives and regulations further captures the focus of operators, preventing process interruptions while keeping the inventory and flow of goods transparent and at optimum capacity ensures high productivity and helps keep cost down.
Our smart, scalable solution for condition monitoring of stored goods in tanks and bulk silos supports your business and operational targets by offering reliable temperature profile data throughout your inventory infrastructure from local single vessels to large global multi-site enterprises.
Benefits
i. Ensure consistency and enhance product quality
ii. Real-time condition parameter visualisation
iii. Historical data records and trends monitoring
iv. Alarms for local and remote site supervision
v. Ensure plant safety in hazardous areas
vi. Prevent thermal runaways, predict events
vii. Seamless system integration and automation, and
viii. Industry 4.0 ready with a scalable Netilion cloud ecosystem.
The solution is based on multipoint temperature instruments, system components, software and services. It is specifically designed for various condition monitoring applications such as the safe storage of: edible oils (e.g., palm, lauric oils); grain, rice, beans, seeds, flour, sugar; speciality fats; oleochemicals; pellets; water; and more.
Scalable solution & system architecture

This includes smart temperature profiling, condition monitoring, data management, system integration and services.
Our solution gives you the freedom to select from a range of options and integration levels to quickly validate the architecture against your operational and engineering requirements.
Flexible system integration and solution scaling is key to accommodate any operational scenario from local visualisation and data recording to global cloud-based remote monitoring. The offering can be extended according to your specific requirements to also include level sensors and advanced inventory management.
Connectivity: Wired or wireless connectivity; reliable 4 ... 20 mA sensor integration; HART® and Bluetooth® temperature transmitters; and Ethernet-based communication protocols.
System integration: Our solution functions as a standalone system with local visualisation. It also integrates seamlessly into all major PLC, DCS or SCADA systems including Siemens, Rockwell Automation and more.

Products
Endress+Hauser monitoring solutions are composed of several components in order to deliver a meaningful package and bring value to your operation.
Temperature instruments are at the core of the data acquisition for condition monitoring.
iTHERM MultiSens TMS31 are robust multipoint temperature assemblies with up to 20 (higher number available on request) RTD or thermocouple sensors. The roof-mounted device comes with its own rugged junction box to protect the sensible electronics and connections. The sensors are mounted along a suspended stainless steel rope engineered to endure high mechanical loads. The device is capable of continuous temperature value monitoring and integrates with the Memograph M RSG45 advanced data manager as part of the solution.
Advanced data recorder provides on-site visualisation, calculation and reliable connectivity.
The Memograph RSG45 is a flexible and powerful system for organising process values. Thanks to its intuitive operation, the device adapts quickly and easily to any application.
The process values are clearly presented (locally or remotely) on the display and logged safely, limits are monitored and warnings are generated in case of critical conditions.
The measured values can be easily transferred to higher level systems across various communication protocols. Plant modules can be interconnected; also available as a DIN rail version without display.
The Fieldgate FXA42 is designed for monitoring field devices with digital or 4 to 20mA interface across silos and locations.

It supports communication interfaces like Ethernet, WLAN or cellular communication. With its integrated web server technology it can easily be configured online and measured values can be visualised online.
Fieldgate FXA42 also offers data logging and alarm management functions.
Edge devices (SGC series). Industrial edge devices such as the FieldEdge SGC500 are required to provide connectivity between the field and Netilion cloud-based IIoT ecosystem. Data transmission is routed via the plants’ internet connection. The information required for Netilion Services is regularly polled from the field devices and saved to the Netilion Cloud.
The RN Series interface modules power the foundation of measurement instrument loops and safety instrumented systems built on the widely used analog process control infrastructure.
The intrinsically safe signal processing and conditioning devices (up to SIL 2 (SC 3) in accordance with IEC 61508) ensure reliable power supply and safe operations in hazardous areas, establishing a trusted signal link between field instruments and the process control level.
Radar or ultrasonic level measurement (optional): Used for continuous, non-contact level measurement in powdery to granular bulk solids, also with smart sensor functionality Heartbeat Technology, wireless or wired.
SupplyCare software by Endress+Hauser helps you to minimise stocks and ensures your delivery performance. The system recognises the ideal point in time to re-order raw materials. If you drop below threshold limits and safety stocks, staff at your company will automatically receive notification messages from SupplyCare. The software is flexible to support other important process variables and measurement sources, e.g., temperature, flow, battery status, density, humidity and more.
The system can visualise up to nine values per tank or silo. Depending on the inventory properties, some media are highly sensitive to environmental influences. Therefore, it is important to monitor certain parameters to ensure they stay within a specific range. This guarantees the quality of the product and the process in the supply chain; available as Enterprise or Hosting.
Netilion – the multi-brand ecosystem
Netilion is a cloud-based IIoT ecosystem, designed for industrial processes. It connects the physical and digital worlds to send valuable information from the field straight to your phone, tablet or other devices. Netilion empowers you to improve efficiency and drive innovation.
