Moxa showcases advances in TSN solutions that speed up industrial digital transformation at Automation Taipei 2022.

Moxa Inc., a leader in industrial communications and networking, announced recent advances that were displayed at Automation Taipei 2022 (August 24-27, 2022) for its time-sensitive networking (TSN) solutions, as well as several breakthroughs that have been achieved for the TSN ecosystem for one unified network. A lineup of demonstrations resulting from the recent collaborations in the TSN ecosystem were showcased that open up new evolutionary paths and opportunities for accelerating industrial digital transformation. The showcase also included a high-performance, isochronous network, and simpler and more reliable network structuring, which is working towards a standard Ethernet that empowers a flexible and scalable automation architecture that makes predictive maintenance easier.
Great strides have been made in the recent collaborations accomplished by the TSN ecosystem of chip makers, device manufacturers, solution providers, end users, and industry associations. They have been able to foster TSN solutions that unlock new possibilities for growth and differentiation by including devices as well as protocols such as CC-Link IE TSN by the CC-Link Partner Association (CLPA), PROFINET over TSN (PROFINET CC-D), OPC UA FX, etc. This cooperation has focused on working on a truly unified and high-performance network infrastructure that permits all types of traffic to coexist. This successful collaboration has enabled a simple, flexible, and scalable automation architecture, which can facilitate plug-and-produce manufacturing and edge intelligence enabled by deterministic end-to-end networking over wired to wireless TSN.

“A converged TSN network is the key to enabling the seamless transfer of data in the right place and at the right time. The ultimate goal is to achieve fast, deterministic, and reliable communications to ensure uninterrupted operations,” said Jack Lin, project lead of Moxa’s global TSN initiative. “Moxa is devoted to collaborating with key industry players to bridge the gap between standard Ethernet and industrial applications, and to drive cross-vendor interoperability of automation components and deterministic end-to-end networking on the factory floor, as well as process automation, through a unified industrial Ethernet infrastructure.”
“With industrial Ethernet and networking expertise, Moxa has brought a valuable TSN solution to the market, which provides high-bandwidth connectivity for massive data transmission and quality of service to time- and mission-critical industrial applications on a converged network,” said Ryan Huang, assistant vice president of programmable logic controller department at ELS System Technology, a leading Taiwanese lithography total solution provider. “Moxa’s TSN solution is also very valuable to us as it supports multiple traffic classes that may have very different requirements, and offers accurate motion control data about network traffic in real-time using the same open and standard network. It can also help increase the economic feasibility of the network and reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) as the infrastructure is easy to maintain and scale up.”

With ongoing effort and commitment to building innovative industrial connectivity technologies and solutions, Moxa has been ambitiously working with the partner companies of the TSN ecosystem to achieve milestones such as enabling zero recovery time technology with IEEE 802.1CB. In addition, Moxa has also run industrial automation applications based on CC-Link IE TSN and deterministic end-to-end communication over wired to wireless TSN. The solutions combining Gigabit bandwidth, high performance, improved determinism, and reliability in industrial Ethernet-based communications will be demonstrated at the trade show to illustrate how they support time-critical, control-related tasks and improve the transparency of how information is processed to support quality and output.
“Keysight is pleased to help Moxa test and verify the reliability and the end-to-end latency of the time-critical traffic made possible by its deterministic end-to-end communication with wireless TSN solution,” said Avik Bhattacharya, senior product manager at Keysight Technologies. “Keysight’s IxNetwork TSN solution along with the Novus hardware was used to validate the 10ms cycle time for industrial-grade, critical infrastructure combining wired and wireless connections”

“CC-Link IE TSN open-network technology can help businesses move forward in their digital transformation as it empowers evolving technologies such as edge computing, machine vision, and industrial AIoT for smart manufacturing,” said Oishi Takahiro, senior manager of network hardware development section at Mitsubishi Electric Corporation Nagoya Works.“Moxa’s advances in pioneering TSN unified network infrastructure that integrates CC-Link IE TSN devices and IP devices are ideal for simplifying network architecture configuration, machine component integration, and cabling. We are convinced that Moxa will also contribute to reduce complexity in engineering for the development of innovative solutions to end users all over the world.”
