Automotive innovations and artificial intelligence are the big trends in the automation sector.

The Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan (ITRI) is a world-leading applied technology research institute with more than 6,000 employees. Its mission is to drive industrial development, create economic value, and enhance social well-being through technology R&D. Founded in 1973, it pioneered in IC development and started to nurture new tech ventures and deliver its R&D results to industries. ITRI has set up and incubated companies such as TSMC, UMC, Taiwan Mask Corp., Epistar Corp., Mirle Automation Corp., and Taiwan Biomaterial Co. A-Tech System Co Ltd is a Taiwan based company, founded in 1995 and co-established by senior researchers from the ITRI. Their experienced staff have taken part in many automated projects over the years regarding machine control, electronic and optical system, LCD and PCB laser repair, and semiconductor related tasks. Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, Control, and Systems integration are the company's core values to meet our customers' needs, and they focus on technology, service, and state-of-the-art techniques for the quality. “They are diligent in innovative techniques to create highest value and profitability for their clients,” says Ms Kate Chien of A-Tech.

The main services that A-Tech concentrates on are TFT-LCD and PCB laser repair solutions. The company firmly believes automation and robotics will be in demand in the future and from a long-term perspective, it will help to decrease production costs, and make standards for quality control. It foresees three big trends for the automation sector, viz., Automotive Innovations, use of Artificial Intelligence and Remote service/on-line service.

For A-Tech, which has presence in Japan, China, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, India is a lucrative market because of the potential that the global supply chain is gradually changing from China to India and with local economic growth needs, demand is booming. In India the potential sectors for the company are TFT-LCD laser repair system and laser marking systems. It wants to build business in the laser application related projects and machines. “We have a better understanding of the sector and have a team of more experienced engineers and offer good quality products,” asserts Ms Kate.

The Taiwan Products Centre (TPC in India helps A-Tech to get sales channels and make A-Tech aware of the India market ecosystem. Presently A-Tech does not have an agent or representative in India. “We will seek the possibility to build up a sales channel in India,” says Ms Kate. “We plan to take part in activities on-line exhibitions, TAITRA events and other industry events to promote our services and products,” she adds. According to her, the key challenge for A-Tech is in marketing research and finding the best business partner or company who would be the right fit to lead A-Tech to its customers.
Post Covid, many things have changed and the companies have had to make various strategic plans to deal with the situation. “We had to deal with critical issues like lack of material, cost rise and longer lead time, but we have been closely coordinating with our suppliers and rescheduled our production plans to reduce our gap to customer's demand,” concludes Ms Kate Chien.
