Online products and solutions launch – Smart Machine Tools for Automotive and Parts Manufacturing.

Taiwan Excellence recently presented a virtual event, ‘Smart Machine Tools for Automotive and Parts Manufacturing’ for online products and solutions launch. It was organised by the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT), under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) of Taiwan, in association with Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the foremost non-profit, semi-governmental trade promotion organisation in Taiwan. Four leading Taiwanese companies – SEYI, Jainnher, YDPM and Tongtai – made presentations about the cutting-edge technologies and innovations of smart machine tools.
“There are three points I would like to address,” said Simon Wang, Executive Vice President, TAITRA, addressing the virtual event. “The coronavirus pandemic makes Taiwan even more resilient. Due to proximity to China as well as our massive investments in the mainland, many expected Taiwan’s economy to be hit hard. However, Taiwan survives and survives well,” he added. Wang emphasized the need for smart machinery to address the concerns of environment, and mentioned the TIMTOS event scheduled for March 15-20, 2021 at Taipei, inviting both exhibitors and visitors to the show.
Jack Chen, Director of Sales Dept, Shieh Yih Machinery Industry Co Ltd (SEYI), a leading manufacturer of medium-large servo presses, made a presentation on Servo Press at Hot Stamping Application. Chen explained why the servo press is the best solution for hot stamping application. “Servo press has a mechanical transmission where the down stroke and upper stroke speed is much faster than a conventional hydraulic press,” said Chen, explaining how the former takes just 1.5 secs to reach the bottom dead centre against the 4.5 seconds taken by the hydraulic press, with the total cycle time a whole 5 secs faster.
Next, Herbert Qiu, Sales Engineer, Jainnher Machine Co Ltd made a presentation on Automotive Parts Application in Grinding Machine. Jainnher manufactures precision CNC centerless grinding machines. “A grinding machine or grinder is a type of machine that uses abrasive wheel as the cutting tool, it is use to finish workpieces that must reflect high surface quality and precision of shape or dimension that are hard to achieve by just using a turning machine,” said Qiu. The company has a global footprint that accounts for 85% of its sales, with the home market using the balance 15%.
YPDM's Allen Pai, Senior Sales Manager, YIDA Precision Machinery Co Ltd (YDPM) presented on Smart Solutions for Automotive Manufacturing. The new horizontal machining centres made by YDPM offer simple operation and versatile machining areas. It can be applied to machining components in the watchmaking, automotive, motorcycle, electronics and aircraft industries. The design is based on the experience of HMC customer feedback; with CAE finite element, it is lightweight and has high rigidity. All components are QC certified with calibration and machining tests. All data is recorded on the SOP for tracking.
Tony Huang, Assistant Sales Manager, Tongtai Machine & Tool Co Ltd presented the Tongtai Smart Manufacturing Solutions. The TTGroup is a global manufacturer of machine tools with six leading brands including Tongtai, Honor, Quick-tech and APEC – all based in Taiwan, and PCI-SCEMM in France and Anger Machining, Austria. Each brand offers a different type of CNC machining solution. Tony Huang presented an overview of the company and its intelligent solutions for smart manufacturing, sharing some examples to show how they help customers construct flexible production lines.
Taiwan ranks consistently among the world’s top 10 manufacturers and top 5 exporters of machine tools. With the advent of the Industry 4.0 era, Taiwan’s leading machine tool manufacturers have concentrated their efforts on innovation to make these machines smart for the present day requirements.
